 | Contractors (get referrals & research for complaints),
check to verify whether they are insured / bonded, how long they've been in
business under their current name, etc. |
 | Get estimates from at least 3 contractors and the best is
not necessarily the cheapest. |
 | Holding costs, not limited to; mortgage, taxes, insurance
(possibly "vacant insurance policy"), utilities. Holding costs can run on
indefinitely, depending on the project and your contractors, these can be the
biggest and often underestimated cost of the project. |
 | Realtor commissions, title policy, seller closing costs
(you may get an estimate on these costs early from a title company). |
